Jan 17, 2021 Dido and Aeneas is the greatest work of the “Orpheus britannicus” Henry Purcell, who shows himself with this work to be a master of the baroque  Dido, the queen of Carthage, falls in love with Aeneas, the Trojan prince, whilst offering him safe harbour on his journey home.

The relationship between Dido and Aeneas and their actions show what Virgil wants us to think about each character. Both possess many Roman virtues and values. How well each Dido and Juno sees Dido’s love for Aeneas as a way to keep Aeneas from going to Italy.
